Power rankings: T.J. Yeldon tops list

Introducing TideNation's power rankings of the Alabama’s top contributors, which opens with a top five:

Every week, we’ll update these rankings to reflect how specific areas of the Alabama football program are improving.

Here's this week's power rankings:

1. RB T.J. Yeldon: As it turns out, A-Day was just a tease. Against Michigan, the true freshman tailback built on his strong spring and fall camp -- taking over as Alabama's top tailback with Eddie Lacy injured and running for 111 yards, the most of any player in his first game at Alabama.

2. CB Dee Milliner: Denard Robinson kept testing Alabama's top tailback, and Milliner kept turning away Michigan's star quarterback. Milliner intercepted a pass and knocked down four more against Robinson. Milliner was also a physical presence, pitching in on run support. He finished the game third on the team with four tackles.

3. The lines: The offensive line lived up to its preseason billing as the top unit in the SEC, dominating Michigan to the tune of 232 yards rushing. The defensive line wasn't too shabby either, keeping Robinson contained throughout the game -- Michigan's speedy quarterback failed to register at least two 10-yard rushes for the first time in 26 consecutive games.

4. WR Kevin Norwood: The junior receiver spent the offseason quietly going about his business. He put on a couple pounds and quite a bit of muscle which he put to good use against Michigan fighting for yards after catch. He led the team with three receptions for 53 yards.

5. Offensive coordinator Doug Nussmeier: Usually the first few plays of the game are determined before the football is ever teed up. During Alabama's opening drive, the offensive coordinator's set list didn't jive as the Tide went three and out. The next time around it simply hummed, taking UA 61 yards on nine plays for the opening score. The following drive, Nussmeier drew up a double move that worked to perfection as AJ McCarron hooked up with DeAndrew White for a 51-yard touchdown.
