ESPN 100 SG Johnson enjoys Bama visit

ESPN 150 stars Holland Fisher and DeMarcus Walker took their official visits to the University of Alabama over the weekend, but football wasn’t the only sport to host an official visitor.

Anthony Grant and the Crimson Tide basketball team welcomed ESPN 100 shooting guard JaJuan Johnson (Memphis, Tenn./Southwind) on his official visit. Johnson visited once before over the summer.

“The visit went good,” he said. “It was a good atmosphere, and it was a real college town. It was a big campus. I had been there before, but it was during summer school and people were just going home.

“I met with the president, the athletic director, the counselors. I went out with the team, went to their dorms and asked them questions. I feel like I would fit right in. They’re on their grind, and they want to win. I feel like I am the same type of player.”

During his trip, Johnson spent a lot of time with the coaching staff. He and Alabama coach Anthony Grant talked about how the 6-foot-5 guard would fit into the Tide’s system if he chose to come there, but it wasn’t all basketball.

“It really wasn’t just about basketball,” Johnson said. “That’s what I liked about it. It was really like we were a family, a little bit.”

Johnson arrived in Tuscaloosa on Thursday and concluded his visit with the football game on Saturday night between the Tide and Ole Miss. As a football fan, he enjoyed both the game and the atmosphere.

“It was crazy,” Johnson said. “The football game was good. The fans, the atmosphere, the fans were chanting my name. It was crazy.”

With two official visits out of the way to Alabama and Miami, Johnson still has plans to take an official to Texas this weekend and to Marquette the following weekend for Midnight Madness. He wants to make a decision before the start of his senior season.
