Florida Awards Tracker: Week 7

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Here’s a recap of how Florida’s players on national award Watch lists are faring this season:

LB Jon Bostic

Watch lists: College Football Performance Award Linebacker Trophy, Butkus Award, Rotary Lombardi.

Last week’s stats: four tackles.

Season stats: 38 tackles, three sacks for minus-17 yards, three QB hurries, one forced fumble, two pass break-ups.

Comment: Stats don’t show it, but he played a solid game against the Gamecocks.

FB Trey Burton

Watch list: CFPA Running Back Trophy.

Last week’s stats: five carries for 10 yards, 1-for-1 passing for 1 yard, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery.

Season stats: 15 carries for 119 yards and two TDs, seven catches for 74 yards, 1-for-1 passing for 1 yard, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery.

Comment: His hit on Ace Sanders resulted in a fumble he recovered to set up Florida’s second touchdown.

P Kyle Christy

Watch list: CFPA Punter Trophy

Last week’s stats: averaged 54.3 yards on seven punts.

Season stats: averaging 47.9 yards on 36 punts, 13 inside the 20, 18 of at least 50 yards.

Comment: Huge day vaulted him to No. 1 in the nation in punting. Won SEC Special Teams Player of the Week.

WR/KR Andre Debose

Watch lists: CFPA All-Purpose Trophy, CFPA Kickoff Returner Trophy, CFPA Wide Receiver Trophy, Biletnikoff.

Last week’s stats: one punt return for 19 yards, one kickoff return for 39 yards.

Season stats: averaging 25.3 yards on 12 kickoff returns, averaging 10.2 on nine punt returns, two carries for 1 yard, one catch for 5 yards.

Comment: Debose did a much better job of coming up to field punts and saving the Gators yardage. He’s starting to develop the consistency the coaching staff is looking for.

DE Dominique Easley

Watch list: Ted Hendricks Award.

Last week’s stats: one tackle, one sack for minus-3 yards.

Season stats: nine tackles, two sacks for minus-8 yards, two QB hurries.

Comment: He blew up South Carolina’s first place, forcing QB Connor Shaw to hold onto the ball too long and setting the stage for Loucheiz Purifoy’s strip sack.

S Matt Elam

Watch lists: CFPA Defensive Back Trophy, Jim Thorpe Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy.

Last week’s stats: six tackles, one tackle for loss.

Season stats: 39 tackles, one sack for minus-10 yards, four tackles for loss, one interception, two pass break-ups, one forced fumble.

Comment: Helped keep South Carolina from having a pass play longer than 20 yards.

DT Sharrif Floyd

Watch lists: Bednarik Award, Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Outland Trophy, Rotary Lombardi Award, Walter Camp Award.

Last week’s stats: four tackles, one tackle for loss, blocked FG attempt.

Season stats: 26 tackles, five tackles for loss, three QB hurries, blocked FG attempt.

Comment: Floyd’s block marked the second week in a row in which the Gators blocked a field goal.

C Jonotthan Harrison

Watch list: Rimington Award.

Last week’s stats: The Gators struggled on the ground, running for only 36 yards.

Season stats: Gators are averaging 212.7 yards per game rushing.

Comment: Harrison played with a brace on his right arm because of an elbow injury he suffered against Vanderbilt. South Carolina gave UF’s OL trouble with run blitzes.

LB Jelani Jenkins

Watch lists: Butkus Award, Rotary Lombardi Award.

Last week’s stats: four tackles, one sack for minus-8 yards.

Season stats: nine tackles, one sack for minus-8 yards, two tackles for loss.

Comment: Jenkins had an interception wiped out by a penalty. It was a heck of a catch considering he’s playing with a cast on his right hand.

LB Lerentee McCray

Watch list: Butkus Award.

Last week’s stats: fumble recovery.

Season stats: 18 tackles, two sacks for minus-10 yards, one interception, two QB hurries, one forced fumble, one fumble recovery.

Comment: Recovered a fumble near the goal line on the game’s first offensive play. Gators were trying to be disciplined in rush lanes to keep Shaw from getting out of the pocket. Had an offside penalty that wiped out Jenkins’ interception.

TE Jordan Reed

Watch lists: John Mackey Award, CFPA Tight End Trophy.

Last week’s stats: four catches for 44 yards and two TDs, one kickoff return for 35 yards.

Season stats: 25 catches for 281 yards and three TDs, one kickoff return for 35 yards.

Comment: Reed had a 39-yard catch-and-run on a TE screen in the third quarter and nearly returned an onside kick for a touchdown in the fourth quarter.

K Caleb Sturgis

Watch lists: CFPA Placekicker Trophy, CFPA Specialist Trophy, Groza award.

Last week’s stats: 1-for-1 on field goals.

Season stats: 12-for-14 on field goals, two of those are from 51 yards.

Comment: Sturgis hit a 42-yard field goal against South Carolina and is tied for the SEC in field goals made.
