GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- It’s time to dip into the GatorNation recruiting mailbag and answer your questions. Because of the amount of questions we’ve received, we won’t be able to get to all of them today -- but we encourage you to post your questions on our Insider fan forum, The Chompions Club.
A: Florida will have its work cut out for both players. Gilmore will make his decision on Thursday night between Florida and LSU. After a weekend visit to LSU (and the Tigers having been his long-time leader), I have to think LSU is the team he will chose on Thursday night. As for Adams, the Gators have made a very big impression on him, but so did the Bulldogs when he visited Athens. At this point, I'm not sure Florida gets either player, but they aren't very far behind for either guy.
eastorwestgatorsarethebest: Who among our 2013 WR commits run routes the best and block well?
A: Of Florida's four wide receivers commits -- Ahmad Fulwood, Alvin Bailey, Marqui Hawkins and Chris Thompson -- I think Fulwood and Thompson are the best route-runners. Bailey plays multiple positions, as does Hawkins. As for who the best blocker is, that's really hard to say based on highlight films, but Hawkins is the most physical of the four. He also plays defense for his school and is very aggressive. With Florida's lack of playmakers on offense, all four of these guys will have a chance to compete for playing time as freshmen.
super_j85: Tell me Alex Anzalone is playing mind games.
A: I wouldn't say he's playing mind games. He really is a good kid. He's just a high school student who truly loves two schools. Unfortunately for Gators fans, he can only pick one school to attend. Notre Dame did a nice job of convincing him to stay committed to the Irish while he was on his visit. He's not trying to play any games, it was just difficult for him to chose between the two schools.
Sean CareyLove: DT, do you have a list of 2013 commits who are planning on enrolling early. I saw that Kelvin wants to, but I am curious as to which others. It seems that the athletes who decide to enroll early have a much higher chance of making an impact when it comes to the fall season. Examples being Latroy Pittman, D.J. Humphries, and Antonio Morrison.
A: There are some guys who are still uncertain, but so far Kelvin Taylor, Adam Lane, Daniel McMillian, James Hearns and Joey Ivie are all planning to enroll early. With Florida losing Mike Gillislee after this season, it is a huge benefit to get Taylor and Lane on campus early. Same for McMillian and Hearns. They both have a chance to get early playing time as true freshmen.
Xande3547: Will the talk of Brent Pease taking the UK job hurt our ability to bring in recruits in 2013 or 2014? Even if he does not take it, does his interest suggest to recruits that he is not in for the long haul?
A: If a coordinator has any success at Florida he will have a chance to be a head coach. This will always be a problem for the Gators. Look at Charlie Strong at Louisville, Dan Mullen at Mississippi State and even Steve Addazio at Temple. Addazio's last year at Florida wasn't very good at all and he still landed a head coaching job. Could it affect future recruiting? Sure it could, but Will Muschamp has shown an ability to recruit at a high level, and as long as he keeps the same offensive philosphy, he will likely be able to hold on to a large majority of the offensive recruits.
