Jenkins closing in on decision

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. --Four-star defensive end Jordan Jenkins (Hamilton, Ga./Harris Co.) was surprised to learn he would be playing defensive tackle in the first half of the Under Armour All-America Game on Thursday night.

The 6-foot-3, 235-pound prospect surprised himself though when accounted for four tackles and two sacks while playing the position. The two sacks tied an Under Armour record that was originally set by Florida defensive tackle Omar Hunter. Ohio State commit Noah Spence later broke the record with three sacks.

"I was relentless, I just never gave up," Jenkins said when asked about the record. "The funny thing is I got those two sacks playing defensive tackle and I thought I wouldn't get any sacks playing tackle, but I made like three or four tackles in the first half."

Jenkins experiment at tackle was short-lived however. He said after running in to Florida offensive guard commit Jessamen Dunker (Boynton Beach, Fla./Boynton Beach), he is done playing tackle.

"He's definitely a big freakin' guy," Jenkins said. "He actually pancaked me once, and after that I'm like I'm done playing defensive tackle. He got me one time, and I'd say he's a good guard. He's definitely a big guy."

Jenkins ended the game with eight tackles and two sacks.

After the game, Jenkins and his family heading back to the team hotel in Lake Buena Vista (Fla.) where several college coaches, including Florida's are waiting to make a sales pitch to the highly recruited player.

"Austin Hardin and Latroy [Pittman] were saying that the Florida coaches were coming by and Coach [Dan] Quinn called me yesterday or the day before saying I should come by and stop by for a little bit because they all wanted to see me. It's definitely an honor because I'm not even a commit and they all want me to come down."

Jenkins will be choosing between Alabama, Florida, Georgia and Auburn on Jan. 9, but said he has not made up his mind.

"I definitely haven't made my decision yet," Jenkins said.

So what will Jenkins do these last few days before his announcement?

"Oh man," Jenkins said with a smile. "A lot of thinking, a lot of stress and an earful from my dad."
