Each week, Tales From The Road will provide news and updates about where Florida's coaches are recruiting and the prospects making headlines.
This week’s targets: For the fourth straight week, Florida coaches were on the road recruiting. This week a Florida coach headed to Orlando to check in on defensive end Trent Harris, who recently decided to postpone his May 23 commitment date. Florida also checked in on 2015 Orlando (Fla.) Timber Creek running back Jacques Patrick.
Running backs coach Brian White headed to Alabama to check out defensive tackle Cory Thomas, running back Bo Scarbrough and outside linebacker Torrence Brown. Linebacker Dillon Bates had Florida coaches visit him at his practice on Tuesday.
Area of interest: South Florida is once again loaded with talent this year and Florida is certainly looking to land several highly-rated players in this talent-rich area. This is the main area of recruiting for defensive backs coach Travaris Robinson, but he will also be assisted by new wide receivers coach Joker Phillips, and for good reason. The Gators are targeting top South Florida wide receivers Ermon Lane, Travis Rudolph, Johnnie Dixon and Corey Holmes. In addition to the receivers, Florida is also targeting defensive backs Quincy Wilson, J.C. Jackson and Chris Lammons, linebacker Richard Yeargin III and defensive tackle Khairi Clark. That's in addition to the three South Florida players, Dalvin Cook, Anthony Moten and Ryeshene Bronson, that are already committed to the Gators.
Word on the street: @aweiner92: It seems like every HS kid who makes an on-campus visit only has positive, flattering things to say about the experience -- for obvious reasons. But as someone who speaks with tons of HS kids, are there any clues you look for in speaking with them after an on-campus visit to help you identify ones who really are impressed versus ones who are just saying the right things? Do you often hear lukewarm or negative reactions to on-campus visits?
GatorNation: That is a great question. It sometimes is hard to tell who is being truthful and who isn't. Most of these players genuinely do enjoy their visits and there are other times when kids, for whatever reasons, don't enjoy them as much. Most of the recruits are respectful enough of the college that is recruiting them to just say positive things publicly about that school.
What to watch: Florida high schools will begin playing spring games this weekend and games will continue until the end of the May. Here are a few noteworthy games with Florida commits or targets this Thursday and Friday.
