GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida may not be hosting many prospects this weekend, but it is still an important recruiting weekend.
Of the four official visitors expected, outside linebacker Jeremi Powell (Largo, Fla./Pinellas Park) is the only committed prospect. Powell wanted to visit Florida on another weekend, but this was the only time his mom could make it.
Three-star defensive tackle Vincent Valentine (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville) will be taking his official visit to Florida with his family. Valentine said he is looking forward to it.
"I want to see how the team and the players bond," Valentine said. "I want to see how their academics are and just get a good feeling of the place."
Nebraska and Illinois are leading for Valentine, but he did say Florida is in his top three and this visit could go a long way.
Four-star defensive end Alex McCalister (Clemmons, N.C./West Forsyth) will also be making the trip to Gainesville with his family. With Florida's loss of Jordan Jenkins to Georgia, McCalister, who is also being recruited for the buck position, now becomes a priority for the Gators.
Upon his return from Gainesville, McCalister is set to announce his decision on Tuesday between Georgia Tech, North Carolina and Florida.
Three-star offensive tackle Jake Meador (Whiteland, Ind./Whiteland Community), an Ole Miss commit, will be visiting Indiana Friday and Saturday, but will then head to Gainesville from Sunday through Tuesday. With Florida's need along the offensive line, Meador is sure to get the full-court press from the Gators.
Four-star defensive end Darius Hamilton (Ramsey, N.J./Don Bosco Prep) was expected to take an unofficial visit to Florida with his mother, but it now appears that won't happen.
The Gators are heading down the home stretch of the 2012 recruiting season. Florida will be bringing in several top prospects over the next few weeks. With roughly seven or eight spots left to fill, Florida is looking to close strong.
