Florida took a tough loss to LSU on Saturday, falling 17-6 to the Tigers in Death Valley. It was a tough day, but let's look at some of the bright spots and hand out some helmet stickers:
Kelvin Taylor: The freshman running back had a career-high 52 yards on 10 carries and helped fill in for Matt Jones, who left the game with an injury. Before Saturday, Taylor had appeared only in two games and carried the ball six times, but he did an admirable job when called upon.
Francisco Velez: Have to give one to the only player who actually put points on the board. Velez connected on both of his field goal attempts (44 and 27 yards) and might be the Gators' new kicker. Will Muschamp said after the game that Velez won an open competition throughout last week and is their kicker right now. If Velez can be consistently good, it bodes well for Florida later in the season.
Florida's pass defense: Many call LSU's receiving tandem of Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry the best in the SEC, but the Gators were able to keep the pair from exploding on Saturday. Beckham finished with just two catches for 47 yards, while Landry had 58 yards on four catches. Neither had a touchdown catch. That's not to say there weren't big plays -- Landry and Beckham had receptions of 29 and 25, respectively, but it's hard to ask for much more than what Florida limited LSU to.
