GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- It sounds like some sort of twisted comparison of sports fan afflictions: Tebowmania vs. Linsanity. Both have run wild here at ESPN this year. In fact, some are calling New York Knicks point guard Jeremy Lin the Tim Tebow of the NBA. So now that all the talking heads have weighed in (and moved on), here is the definitive look at Tebow and Lin.
ESPN Stats & Info calls Tebow and Lin "Two of a kind" and you can see why in the way they've come through in clutch time.
In the NFL this season, "Tebow Time" was the final nine minutes of the fourth quarter, in which Tebow's total QBR of 85.3 ranked third. In the final nine minutes of the fourth quarter in the NBA this season, Lin ranks fourth in Player Efficiency Rating (min. 85 minutes).
But enough stats. Let's go directly to the sources and hear Lin's and Tebow's thoughts on each other.
Lin on Tebow: "I've drawn actually a lot of inspiration just because he’s such a polarizing figure but I think the things he says in interviews, his approach to the game is just unbelievable and I respect him so much," he said in a radio interview recently. "I actually want to be able to do some of the things that he does in terms of the amount of charity work and the non-profit work, and the way he impacts people off the field. I think that is what is most inspiring to me about him.”
Tebow on Lin: "I really like him. I respect him a whole lot and have had the pleasure of really getting to know him over the last few weeks," he said to ESPN cameras recently. "What a great guy he is. I just wish him the best of luck. How he handles himself and how he carries himself, I think he's a great role model and I'm proud of it."
