Demarcus Walker's decision looms

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. -- Four-star defensive end Demarcus Walker of Jacksonville (Fla.) Sandalwood was a standout among the defensive line at the Orlando Nike Football Training Camp Sunday.

Walker, who earned an invite to The Opening with his performance, was still disappointed after the event ended.

"I thought I was the best," Walker said. "I thought I should have been the MVP, but oh well, it's straight."

Walker, who will make his college decision on May 24, visited Alabama for its spring game last Saturday and came away impressed with what he saw.

"It was pretty good," he said. "I liked it a lot. I spent time with coach [Nick] Saban. I spent time with the coaches and got to spend time with some of the players. I got to see what life was like out there."

Walker sported two rubber Alabama bracelets on his wrists Sunday but said that was not a hint as to where he will chose to play.

"My girlfriend is a Bama fan," Walker said. "She gave it to me after prom for good luck."

Florida commits Ahmad Fulwood, Daniel McMillian and Nick Washington, who are also Jacksonville residents, could play a role in Walker's decision.

"I like Florida," Walker said. "It's close to home and I have a lot of friends that go there also. Those guys are always talking to me about Florida."

Walker said choosing a program that will help him get to the next level is important to him.

"I'm going to watch the draft this week and see how it is," Walker said. "The good programs take you to the next level. I'm also looking for a good coaching staff, great academics and campus lifestyle."

Though Florida and Alabama have moved to the forefront, LSU, Auburn and Florida State also remain in the mix for the talented defensive end.
