Florida football camp: Day 3 notes

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- ESPN 300 outside linebacker Freddie Stevenson (Bartow, Fla./Bartow) took in Florida's camp on Monday. Though the 6-foot-1, 230-pound athlete did not participate at the camp he said he enjoyed his time in Gainesville.

"It went real good," Stevenson said. "I just went on a visit, and took a tour of the campus and spent some time with the coaches. They were just telling me how they were evaluating me and telling me how they want me to come to Friday Night Lights."

Stevenson has offers from Florida State, Penn State, NC State and Texas A&M but does not have an offer from Florida. If the Gators were to extend an offer, Stevenson the Gators would move near the top of his list.

"They would be one of the top schools I'm considering," Stevenson said. "I really like the environment and I think I would be a good fit in their system."

Stevenson, who will Florida State on Thursday, said two schools are standing out to him right now.

"Penn State and Texas A&M are standing out to me," he said. "They both have great tradition, and I like the environment and coaches."

The talented linebacker did confirm he will make a return trip to Gainesville for Florida's Friday Night Lights camp in July.

News and Notes

  • One of the top 2014 offensive linemen in the state of Florida, Reilly Gibbons (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Pete Catholic) camped at Florida on Monday. The 6-5, 253-pound tackle prospect said thought he made a positive impression on the Florida coaching staff. "I thought I did pretty good out here," Gibbons said. "All the coaches had a lot of good things to say. I just came out here and worked my butt off and tried to show them what they were looking for." Gibbons, who has 13 offers including Tennessee, Rutgers, West Virginia, USF and UCF, said he believes Florida is close to offering him: "I've been up here a few times, and every time I come it feels more and more like family." Gibbons admittedly grew up a Notre Dame fan but said he is wide open and in no rush to make a decision.

  • Class of 2014 defensive back Tony Fields (Tallahasse, Fla./Lincoln) is starting to see his recruitment pick up. The 5-10, 187-pound athlete has just one offer, but would love to earn one from Florida. "Right now I have an Ole Miss offer," Fields said. "Tennesee, they told me they were going to offer when I come up to their camp." Fields hopes to impress Florida with his camp performance but said he is also planning to camp at Clemson and South Carolina this week and Auburn, Alabama, Tennessee and Ole Miss next month. Fields said he has yet to hear from the hometown Seminoles.
