GAINESVILLE, Fla.-- Florida lost its second offensive line commitment in a week, as four-star guard prospect Josh Outlaw (Lithonia, Ga./Martin Luther King) decommitted on Sunday.
The 6-foot-4, 275-pound interior lineman, said he wasn't on the same page as the Florida coaching staff when it came to taking official visits, which ultimately led to his decision to part ways with the Gators.
"I feel like we just didn't see eye to eye with the coaches with my situation and I wanted to take my officials," Outlaw said. "At one point I was solidly committed but I still wanted to take my officials because you get five of them and I wanted to experience things that I'll probably never experience again in my life. With a situation like this, you can't be too sure of everybody's intentions. I just wanted to see all of my options before fully committing to a school."
Outlaw is the Gators' fourth decommitment in just over a week, as cornerback Tre' Bell, offensive lineman Rod Johnson and wide receiver Rodney Adams also backed off of their pledges. Florida now has 18 players in its 2013 class.
Outlaw, who gave his pledge to the Gators at the spring game on April 7, admits he thought about taking visits despite Florida's wishes, but then decided it was better for him to just remove himself from the situation.
"They are not eliminated," Outlaw said of UF. "I talked to them and I expressed that I was solid but that I wanted to take officials, and when I explained that to them, they didn't approve of it. So I was kind of in a bind like, 'Do I not show my loyalty to them and go ahead and take my officials anyway and that be a problem with them?'
"I didn't want it to seem like I was trying to make it a difficult situation for them. So I decided to remove myself from the situation and just see what my options are before deciding to do anything."
Outlaw said there are no specific schools he is interested in and has not set up any visits.
"I'm not sure what visits I'll take," he said. "I'm just going to take it slow and see how everything falls in to place and focus on my senior season. Right now, I haven't had any major contact with any schools because of my commitment, but in the coming weeks I'll start to determine which schools and what ranking they will have for me. I'll probably take it slow and take my time with this decision."
