WR Johnnie Dixon has big offseason plans

ESPN Watch List athlete Johnnie Dixon (Palm Beach Gardens, Fla./Dwyer) admits that he needs to start thinking about the recruiting process a little more.

But it’s hard for the 5-foot-11, 190-pound junior to deal with recruiting too much during the playoffs, especially when he is such a key component of Dwyer’s offense.

In Friday night’s 25-3 victory over Oakland Park (Fla.) Northeast, Dixon had six catches for 101 yards.

“Coach [Jack] Daniels is always challenging me to step up and be a leader on offense,” Dixon said. “Our offense is pretty young and we’re not always consistent so they need me to make more big plays.

“It was a tough game [Friday] with the rain and everything, but I’m just trying to do what the coaches ask.”

Dixon holds early offers from Alabama, Florida, FSU, West Virginia, South Florida, Miami and Ohio State, so he understands the recruiting questions will not slow down anytime soon.

“I’m actually going to sort through some things with my family over Thanksgiving,” Dixon said. “Maybe set up a full offseason plan to visit some of these campuses.”

Dixon has been to the FSU-Miami game and Florida-LSU game this season.

“I loved both of those experiences because the crowds were crazy,” Dixon added. “The Hurricane fans and the Gator fans get real loud.”

Dixon said part of his offseason plan will be to get to the out-of-state programs that are looking at him.

“I will definitely try to camp at West Virginia and Alabama during the offseason,” Dixon added. “Either an unofficial visit for a junior day but probably a camp because you get a better feel for the coaches during a camp.”
