GatorNation: Recruiting Mailbag

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- It’s time to dip into the GatorNation recruiting mailbag and answer your questions. Because of the amount of questions we’ve received, we won’t be able to get to all of them today -- but we encourage you to post your questions on our Insider fan forum, The Chompions Club.

FLAGTR239: Of all the commits, from what you've seen, who do you feel will make an impact next season?

A: With the No. 1-ranked class in the country right now, there are several Florida commitments who I feel will have some sort of impact. Kelvin Taylor will have an impact on the offense. Running back Matt Jones displayed what he's capable of in the win over Florida State, but he'll only be a sophomore. Taylor, who's enrolling in January, will have a chance to learn the offense in the spring and compete for playing time early on. I still believe Jones will start, but Taylor should see plenty of carries. Defensively, Vernon Hargreaves III will be an All-American by the time he leaves Florida. He's an intelligent and physically gifted defensive back. Hargreaves has excelled at every event -- whether 7-on-7s or actual games -- I've seen him play in. Florida has depth at corner, but Hargreaves is just too talented to keep off the field early on.

kendallland1: Has Will Grier's commitment excited other 2014 recruits that are considering UF?

A: It certainly has. Class of 2014 wide receiver commit Ryeshene Bronson told me he was very excited about Grier. This was a huge pick-up for Muschamp and the Gators. By landing a record-setting quarterback, it shows Florida's dedication to the passing game in the future. Grier, who ran for 800 yards as a junior, can do some of the same things Driskel does with his feet, but Grier is much more advanced at this stage in his career than Driskel was at the same point.

Xande3547: Do you see us adding a fifth WR to this class? I expect that we'll continue to pursue [Demarcus]Robinson and [Marquez] North, but do we offer James Clark? Is Stacy Coley still on the radar or do grades rule him out?

A: Florida would certainly like to add a fifth receiver to their class. Robinson is still in play for Florida, but because he is enrolling early, time is running out. I believe North is a long shot at this point. Clark seems to be the most obvious choice, but Florida has still yet to offer. Clark told me on Thursday he will visit Nebraska on Jan. 11, Texas on Jan. 18 and Rutgers on Jan. 25 and take an unofficial visit to Florida soon. Coley still has grade concerns, but Florida is keeping track of his progress. At this point, it's hard to say who Florida will wind up taking, but I do know they definitely want to add one more receiver.

mobaychitown: Guys say that stars don't matter ... I'm not one of those guys. So who is the highest-rated player that you'd put money on us landing if you had to?

A: After the way last year's recruiting class ended for Florida, I wouldn't put money on anyone. However, Florida has pretty much filled all of its needs, so any additional players in this class will just be icing on the cake. I am pretty confident the Gators will land another defensive end, and they would like to add another receiver. If defensive end Elijah Daniel can get his academics in order, I think he would be the most likely candidate. If Clark gets his offer, he could possibly make his pledge to Florida. The Gators are very much in the picture for Montravius Adams, Jason Hatcher, Shaq Wiggins and Jalen Ramsey, but I'm not confident that any of them will be in this class. It's not impossible, though.

Richard69011: I know its early but who has a better eye for talent, Will Muschamp or Urban Meyer? IMO Muschamp's style will result in more NFL prospects. Chris Rainey and Jaye Howard being the only players drafted last year didn't help Meyer's case.

A: I think it's still too early to tell. Obviously Urban Meyer did some incredible things while he was at Florida. Keep in mind Meyer recruited Percy Harvin, Tim Tebow, Brandon Spikes, Aaron Hernandez, Mike and Maurkice Pouncey, Sharrif Floyd, Dominique Easley, Janoris Jenkins, Joe Haden, etc. The man can flat out recruit. Muschamp is putting together back-to-back top-five recruiting class and has the 2014 recruiting class off to a great start, too. Only time will tell how some of the prospects Muschamp recruited turn out. But guys like Dante Fowler Jr., Jonathan Bullard, Marcus Roberson, D.J. Humphries, Matt Jones and Antonio Morrison have shown great promise already. I've also heard some positive things about redshirt freshman defensive end Alex McCalister and linebacker Jeremi Powell.
