ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. -- Having as many as six big-time offers at this early stage isn't lost on 2014 OL Garrett Brumfield (Baton Rouge, La./University Lab).
Florida, Florida State, Louisiana Tech, LSU, Miami and Texas A&M have said they have a spot waiting for the ESPN Watch List guard. And that has Brumfield plenty motivated.
"The more choices, the better, so I am real excited," he said.
Sure, the aforementioned group is plenty solid. But there are a couple more offers out there that Brumfield would like to earn if at all possible.
"I would really love to have Mississippi State, Alabama, Georgia and Notre Dame," he said. "Those four programs, I really have a lot of interest in. If I were to get an offer from them, that would be wonderful."
At 6-foot-3, 265 pounds, Brumfield doesn't have the ideal height to play tackle at the next level. Most programs are indeed targeting him to play on the interior.
But maybe, according to Brumfield, if he gets a shot, he could prove he's capable with some quick feet and intelligent play.
"Because of my height, I am projected to be a center," he said. "But I would love to play guard or tackle. Some are looking at me at guard or tackle, but some are looking at me at center, because of my height. It is not really a factor; I make up for it with my athletic ability."
Going to school in the shadows of Death Valley at LSU, Brumfield might be pegged by some to be headed there. That isn't necessarily the case, he says.
Leaving town to go to school is a definite option.
"I wouldn't say so," he said. "Distance isn't really a factor for me. I am not afraid to leave home or anything like that. I don't feel obligated to be a Tiger."
At this point, three schools stick out at the top for Brumfield. And they are all schools he has seen at least once.
"I am really interested in Texas A&M, Florida and Florida State's programs," he said. "Those are the three I really like."
