GatorNation: Recruiting mailbag

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- It’s time to dip into the GatorNation recruiting mailbag and answer your questions. Because of the amount of questions we’ve received, we won’t be able to get to all of them today -- but we encourage you to post your questions on our Insider fan forum, The Chompions Club.

Scot5013: Who is an under the radar guy UF is after, like [Antonio] Morrison from last year, a guy that can end up being in ESPN 150 or 300?

A: He might not end up in the ESPN 300, but I know Florida really likes tight end DeAndre Goolsby (Derby, Kan./Derby). At 6-foot-4 and 225 pounds, Goolsby has ideal size for a tight end, and Florida doesn't have a lot of depth at that position. Goolsby remains open in his recruitment, but Florida sees him as a guy that is big and athletic enough to make an early impact. Being from Kansas, Goolsby doesn't necessarily get the attention he would get if he lived in a bigger football state. This three-star player could turn out to be a steal for whichever school lands him.

CBedgood: What's the odds we stay [Lorenzo] Carters (Norcross, Ga./Norcross) leader and he becomes a Gator?

A: Lorenzo Carter surprised a lot of people by naming Florida his leader over Georgia and Alabama at The Opening. Carter then visited Georgia and tweeted out after the visit that Florida was still his leader. This should come as good news for Florida fans, but there is still a long way to go until signing day. It's difficult to say what the odds are, but Florida has certainly put itself in a good position to land Carter.

kendallland1: Do you think Ermon Lane (Homestead, Fla./Homestead) and Quincy Wilson (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./University School) are a package deal, and where do you see Q. Wilson fitting in on the UF defensive scheme?

A: Wilson tweeted earlier this week that he and Lane want to be a packaged deal. The two are good friends and Florida is really the only school that is near the top of both of their lists that has offered both. Though "packaged' deals don't usually end up happening for whatever reason, Florida certainly has a good chance with both players.

Drew Davis88: What's the latest on Lane and Jamal Adams? They recently tweeted about wanting to commit soon. Do you see us landing one or both of these players?

A: Lane is scheduled to be at Friday Night Lights next week and Adams is the godson of Florida wide receivers coach Joker Phillips. Lane has had Florida, along with Alabama and Miami (Fla.), near the top of his list for some time and I would not be surprised to see him make a decision in the near future. Adams was originally planning to make a decision in August, but has recently said he could delay that decision. If Adams and Lane do decide to go ahead and make commitments, I think Florida has a chance to land both.

ben2rowc: Is there a sense of panic or worry in the coaching staff b/c we only have 11 pledges so far while teams like Bama, FSU, Miami, UGA, UT, and even Kentucky have 15-20?

A: There is absolutely no panic at all. With Florida having a shot with ESPN 300 prospects such as Carter, Adams, Lane, Wilson, Da'Shawn Hand, Adoree' Jackson, Jalen Tabor, David Sharpe, Clifton Garrett, Travis Rudolph, Speedy Noil and Gerald Willis III, the Gators feel pretty confident they will end up with a top class. Florida might not be able to take as many players as they did in the 2013 class, but this class will likely end up being just as strong.
