M.Harris hopes Opening settled questions

ESPN 150 safety Marcell Harris (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) has heard it all before. He's heard the doubters say that he's too big to play safety and should prepare for a future as a linebacker.

Harris admitted it was a motivating tool for his efforts at The Opening this past week.

"I did go there with a little bit of a chip on my shoulder because I'm a safety and I want people to see that I can be a very good safety," Harris said. "I'm a bigger safety. I'm unique for the position but I've worked hard to succeed at this position."

Regardless of what the future holds for Harris there's little doubt that a number of programs that want to see the 6-foot-1, 207-pound senior on their campus. Harris has been linked to Texas, Florida and Florida State for the most part, but he says his recruitment is still wide open.

"I'm looking around and you know, waiting for the right situation to jump out at me," Harris said. "People assume I'm going to Texas because I went there a few times and I do like Texas a lot. People assume I'm going to Florida because my dad played there, but that doesn't have anything to do with me."

Right now Harris is focusing on trimming his list before the start of August training camp.

"I'd like to have a top five and just go into the season with that," Harris said. "But it's a process getting to that point because I will have to make some tough decisions."

Harris also holds offers from Notre Dame, Auburn, Georgia, Clemson, Ohio State, Oklahoma and several other programs.
