GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- With the help of five commitments in five days, the Florida Gators were able to move up to the No. 2 spot in the ESPN class rankings Thursday.
Five-star cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III started the onslaught of commitments last Thursday. Hargreaves is ranked the No. 4 player in the country. Four-star defensive ends Antonio Riles and Jordan Sherit committed Friday and Saturday, respectively. Defensive tackle Travonte Valentine, a 2014 prospect committed Sunday, and 2013 three-star wide receiver Chris Thompson committed to the Gators on Monday.
Ahmad Fulwood, the No. 7-ranked wide receiver in the country, says Florida is building a special class.
"We're building a dynasty with players that can get the job done on Saturdays and help get Florida back to its glory days," Fulwood said. "We're looking to come in and help last year's class and the team. We have players that can do it from each position they are at."
The Gators now total 21 verbal commitments, including eight in the ESPN 150 and 13 in the ESPN 300. With a few top prospects still left on their board, the Gators could challenge USC for the No. 1-overall class by the time national signing day rolls around. Hargreaves and running back Kelvin Taylor are the No. 1-ranked players at their positions.
