GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- With quite possibly the biggest recruiting weekend of year approaching, the Florida Gators have narrowed down their list of potential 2013 targets to roughly 10-20 possibilities. Sure, there are names that might be added to their recruiting board as the season moves along, but only a few spots remain in the 2013 class. Here's a closer look at the top five targets, in no particular order.
DT Greg Gilmore (Hope Mills, N.C./South View) -- The big defensive tackle from North Carolina officially visited Florida this past weekend and really enjoyed his trip. Gilmore has had LSU in the lead for some time but, after ranking his visit an 11 on a scale of one to 10, the Gators have pulled even with the Tigers. His parents appear to be favoring the Gators at this point, but will it be enough to be sway the No. 9-ranked defensive tackle in the country? Gilmore will visit LSU on Nov. 3.
S Marcell Harris (Orlando, Fla./Dr. Phillips) -- Harris just returned from Oklahoma and has visits scheduled to Florida for the LSU game on Oct. 6 and to Florida State the following week. It's significant that Harris is visiting Florida. He has visited the Gators unofficially several times and was planning to use his visits on other schools. Though he won't come out and say it, this appears to be a Florida-Texas battle. The Gators seem to be in good shape for the talented athlete.
OT Trenton Brown (Albany, Ga./Georgia Military)/David Dawson (Detroit, Mich./Cass Tech) -- Brown and Dawson are on the list because the Gators might only take one more lineman and both are committed to other schools. There is a long way to go and Florida could certainly end up taking both players if it came down to it. Brown, the massive 6-foot-8, 350-pound tackle prospect says he remains committed to Georgia, but he's also noted that the Gators are in the lead. Yes, it's very confusing, but the bottom line is the Gators have positioned themselves nicely to land the big tackle. Dawson, a Michigan commitment, has flirted with Florida for some time, and the Gators continue to go after the athletic guard prospect. With the addition of former Nebraska lineman Tyler Moore this past Thursday, the Gators can now focus on just a few linemen to round out their class.
DB Jalen Ramsey (Brentwood, Tenn./Brentwood Academy) -- Ramsey, like Brown and Dawson, is committed to another school (USC). Ramsey officially visited Florida this weekend and though he hasn't said much about the visit publicly, all indications are that the visit went well. Though it will take a lot for the Gators to get Ramsey to switch, he is talented enough to warrant the effort. His teammate, quarterback Max Staver, is committed to play for the Gators. This could help Florida as the season wears on.
WR Laquon Treadwell (Crete, Ill./Crete-Monee) -- Even though the Gators have four wide receiver commits, they continue to pursue the No. 4-ranked pass-catcher in the country. Treadwell continues to show interest, but until he actually schedules an official visit to Florida, it will be tough to gauge just how interested he is in the Gators.
