FSU commit DeAndre Johnson sees UF

GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Florida State's most recent quarterback commitment, DeAndre Johnson (Jacksonville, Fla./First Coast) seemed a little out of place in Gainesville, Fla., for the Gators' Friday Night Lights showcase.

The 2015 dual-threat prospect did not compete, though. Instead, his plan was just to be there for his teammates that were out on the field working for offers.

"I am just came to support my teammates, Daniel McMillian and a couple of my receivers that are trying to get offers," he said.

Although he made the trip and the effort to get to Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, the Gators, it seems, are not in play for Johnson. On the day of his commitment, Johnson said he had grown up a UF fan.

"Florida, I would say no," he said rather quickly.

Johnson's attention has now turned to preparing for the 2012 season. He and his First Coast teammates are eyeing a return to the state finals again this season with practice just a matter of days away.

First, the Seminoles' sophomore commitment will make the trip west down I-10 to the state's capital.

"You can bet on that," Johnson said of visiting FSU in the near future. "I will probably be back next week. I just want to chill out with the coaches. [Lawrence Dawsey] is a great coach. Him, Odell [Haggins], [Dameyune] Craig, Jimbo [Fisher], they all recruit me hard. I just love it.

"They say that I could be the face of their new offense. FSU, they are built around their quarterbacks. They said they want me to come down there and help them win a championship."

Johnson plans on visiting Florida State again for the Clemson game in week four. The Tigers were another team to show him early interest before his commitment to the Seminoles.
