As in-state rivals go, Florida State and Miami overlap each other in the recruiting world regularly.
Past battles have been intense and right down to the wire leaving fans who follow recruiting closely waiting on the edge of their seats waiting for letters of intent to be announced.
NoleNation takes a look at five recent head-to-head matchups between Florida State and Miami.
High School: Ocala (Fla.) Vanguard
College choice: Committed to Florida State in July of 2010 as the Seminoles' first commitment for the class of 2012. Took a late visit to Miami, but in the end, settled in with Florida State as his final choice.
As a recruit: Rated as a four-star safety by ESPN, Williams was inside the ESPN 150 as the country's No. 133 prospect. Among safeties, he was rated the sixth-best prospect in the nation.
Now: Williams rotates in with the rest of the Seminoles defensive backs during mop-up time and also features on special teams such as the kickoff unit. Coach Jimbo Fisher has been high on his potential.
High School: Miramar (Fla.) Miramar
College choice: Chose the Hurricanes on national signing day over Florida State and Florida. All three programs felt they had an inside track to his signature leading into his decision, but Miami eventually won out, and Howard decided to stay local.
As a recruit: A top-flight prospect and four-star recruit by ESPN. The nation's No. 1 prospect at corner and the No. 18 player overall.
Now: Howard has played in seven games for Miami this season with five total tackles. No pass breakups or interceptions have been recorded yet.
High School: Miami (Fla.) Central
College choice: Chose Florida State early on in the process after having been identified and offered by the Seminoles staff at their summer camp. Miami never gave up on Freeman and tried to get him on campus all the way until he enrolled early in Tallahassee in January of 2011.
As a recruit: Was rated as a four-star prospect and the 15th-best running back in the country for 2011.
Now: Freeman led the Seminoles in rushing during his freshman season, and now is in the rotation with Chris Thompson and James Wilder Jr. as a sophomore.
High School: Coral Gables (Fla.) Coral Gables
College choice: Signed with Miami over Florida State and had offers from Auburn , Florida, Georgia, LSU and South Carolina among others.
As a recruit: Rated as a three-star recruit by ESPN and the No. 28 inside linebacker in the country for the class of 2011.
Now: Perryman had a huge year for the Hurricanes as a freshman finishing second on the team in tackles with 69 which was good enough for first in the ACC among freshmen. So far in 2012, he has 35 tackles, two forced fumbles and one interception.
High School: Ft. Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas
College choice: Committed to Florida State in June, but took a late official visit to Miami in January. The Seminoles would hold on to earn his signature in February.
As a recruit: A four-star prospect as rated by ESPN and the No. 20 receiver overall for the class of 2011. Was also inside the ESPN 150 as the No. 125 player in the country.
Now: Exploded on to the scene as a freshman in 2011 as Florida State's top playmaker on offense. Won the MVP of the Champs Sports Bowl in the Seminoles win over Notre Dame. Continues to have an impact as a sophomore as a reliable target and big-play punt returner.
