DE Tim Williams will delay decision

As long as Tim Williams (Baton Rouge, La./University Laboratory) is still playing football, recruiting is going to take a backseat.

That's no surprise for Williams, who listed a state championship for Class 2A UHigh as one of his senior goals all the way back in January, when his first offers began to roll in.

The defensive end, considered Louisiana's No. 2 player and the No. 23 player in the ESPN 150, has a chance to put the Cubs in the state championship game tonight when UHigh travels to Shreveport to face Evangel Christian Academy.

As long as that dream is still alive, Williams said his hotly contested recruitment will have to remain a secondary priority.

"Things are all pretty much the same," he said. "There's lots of interviews and it can be overwhelming, I'll be honest, but it's not hard to stay focused at a time like this."

Not that Williams is complaining, but UHigh's bid at its first state title since 1988 has understandably thrown off his original timeline for a decision. When he received his jersey for the 2013 Under Armour All-America Game in October, the plan had been to take official visits in December and announce at the game on Jan. 4. But the Cubs would be playing until about mid-December were they to win state.

"My decision is going to get pushed back a little bit, just because I haven't had as much time," Williams said. "I still want to take one visit in December, but I'll probably do the rest in January. I know I'm going to Miami in January."

That means Williams won't be announcing at the Under Armour game.

"I'm not going to announce there just because I won't have all my chips on the table yet," he said. "I won't have talked to all my coaches by then."

It's not an inconvenience Williams minds, though. Not with a state title at stake.

"I'm not complaining. Everybody else is at home and I get to keep playing," he said.
