2015 athlete Kerryon Johnson (Huntsville, Ala./Madison Academy) is a known commodity in the prep ranks, but when it comes to recruiting, he's just getting started.
Tuesday afternoon's event was a good way to get the ball rolling.
Florida State, led by assistant coach Jeremy Pruitt, became the first team to offer Johnson.
"I am definitely excited," he said. "They are a great program and getting better and better every year. I am very thankful."
Coach Pruitt had to have some prior knowledge of him or perhaps have gotten a tip from somewhere, but he and Johnson have yet to really get acquainted. That should come later.
But Johnson's initial impression of Pruitt was a positive one.
"That was the first time I actually got to talk to him, but he seems like a cool guy," he said.
Alabama, Mississippi State and South Carolina are three programs that have shown interest in Johnson, too. The Crimson Tide, though, would be one offer that would stand out for the sophomore if he had it.
"I certainly would like that Bama offer," Johnson said.
Johnson also plays basketball for his high school team.
