ESPN 150 running back Ryan Green (St. Petersburg, Fla./St. Pete Catholic) said his relationship with former Florida State assistant Eddie Gran was the strongest he had with any coach he met.
But now that the running backs coach is leaving Florida State, Green will just work on forging new relationships with members of the Seminoles staff.
“I am not decommiting from Florida State,” Green said. “I’m disappointed to hear that coach Gran is leaving but he might be the head coach at Arkansas State or something so I’m happy for him.”
Green spoke with head coach Jimbo Fisher before his basketball game Tuesday night.
“My main concern was that FSU would bring in a new coach that would want to recruit ‘his’ guys,” Green explained. “But I talked with coach Fisher and he told me that I was his top guy and that whatever happens with the staff wasn’t going to change that.
“That was good enough for me. I know they are going to bring in a great coach.”
When the news of Gran’s departure was announced Green’s father, Vader Green, said he had nearly a dozen programs contact him within the hour.
“There were a lot of coaches that called right away to see what Ryan was going to do,” Vader Green added. “It was a circus today but we’ve got it figured out and I think this is the end of it.”
