Dawgs Snapshot 2013: Reggie Wilkerson

To gear up for 2013 national signing day, DawgNation's Radi Nabulsi is breaking down every commitment in the Bulldogs' 2013 recruiting class.

Vitals: Athlete Reggie Wilkerson, Citra, Fla./North Marion | 5-foot-11, 162 pounds

Committed: April 4, 2012

ESPN.com grade: 83. Four-star prospect.

ESPN.com rankings: No. 159 in ESPN 300, No. 16 athlete, No. 74 in Southeast region, No. 34 in Florida

Picked Georgia over: Clemson, South Carolina, Mississippi State, Texas A&M and others.

State of the position: The Bulldogs are losing starting cornerbacks Branden Smith and Sanders Commings to graduation. Sophomore Damian Swann started every game for Georgia this past season and will lock down one of the corner spots. True freshman Sheldon Dawson and redshirt freshman Devin Bowman played in almost every game, yet only have one start between them. The Bulldogs are thin at cornerback and need an immediate impact player.

Pros: “He displays very good speed and clean transitional skills, flipping his hips to turn and run stride-for-stride with receivers in man-to-man. He utilizes his hands and subtle physicality to retain positioning. He does a good job getting his head around to make a play on the ball and is highly competitive in one-on-one battles. He shows great leaping and ball skills when going up for the contested grab. He's a low, torpedo-type tackler who is reliable and secure in open field despite not wrapping up consistently. -- ESPN scouting report

Cons: “He has good height and length, but is lean and in need of bulk. He will need to continue building up his strength to press and match-up physically at the college level as well as polishing his technique, but he has a lot of ability to attract attention as a corner prospect and could grow into a safety..” -- ESPN scouting report

Similar to/potential role: Damian Swann. Wilkerson is a versatile playmaker who could just as easily flip to wide receiver and be a scoring threat. He plays bigger than his size would suggest and displays the savvy that will get him on the field early

Expected impact: 2013. Georgia needs to rebuild the secondary and Wilkerson will have every opportunity to earn a starting spot or at least crack the two-deep. Any other year the coaches would likely have him spend time in the weight room and beefing up at the trainer’s table, but considering how often the Bulldogs are in a nickel package, every incoming cornerback will be needed.
