Another LeMay gives UGA more WR talent

During the final days of the last recruiting cycle, the University of Georgia fell just short on several wide receiver targets, notably in-state target Jaquay Williams (Tyrone, Ga./Sandy Creek) and top juco prospect Cordarelle Patterson (Hutchinson, Kan./Hutchinson CC). With only one receiver set to arrive next month, Blake Tibbs (Lithonia, Ga./Martin Luther King), the Bulldogs are making an effort to restock the position for 2013.

They took another step in the right direction Friday with the addition of one of the most coveted receivers in the Southeast.

Uriah LeMay (Matthews, N.C./Butler) announced his commitment to Georgia, giving the Bulldogs their second wide receiver commitment along with Kyrin Priester (Snellville, Ga./Brookwood), and ESPN 150 athlete Tramel Terry (Goose Creek, S.C./Goose Creek) and athlete J.J. Green (Kingsland, Ga./Camden Co.) are likely to start out at the position as well.

According to Butler head coach Brian Hales, the Bulldogs have added an outstanding talent.

“The first thing that stands out about Uriah is how physical he is,” Hales said. “He is 6-foot-2, 200-pounds right now, and not a lot of kids can match up with him. Second is how versatile he is. He can run routes as an inside receiver, split out by himself or taking carries in the backfield. He averaged over 10 yards a carry, so between the physicality and versatility, LeMay brings a lot to the table.”

LeMay will have another chance to catch passes from older brother and redshirt freshman quarterback Christian LeMay when he arrives in Athens next year. Christian says he knew very early on that Uriah would play at the BCS level.

“I feel like it will be a fun experience playing with my brother,” Christian said. “I look forward to him coming in and helping him with the little things as far as learning the system that I had to go through. Uriah is a great athlete as we all know, and a better person, so I look forward to seeing him on the sideline.”

Last month in Charlotte, the younger LeMay got to catch passes from a future Bulldogs’ quarterback in Brice Ramsey (Kingsland, Ga./Camden Co.). Ramsey and the four-star prospect seemed to be in midseason form, with the ESPN 150 quarterback connecting with LeMay on multiple crossing routes in full stride. Ramsey was excited to hear he would have the chance to do it again at the next level.

“It is fantastic to have a player of his caliber lining up on the same side of the ball as me and on the same team,” Ramsey said. “He is a freak athlete from what I saw in Charlotte.”

Georgia has 18 commitments for the 2013 class, tying the Bulldogs with Michigan with most in the country. To put things in perspective, Georgia had three commitments in the 2012 class at this time last year, and did not get No. 18 until signing day. Now with the addition of LeMay, Georgia has the flexibility to be selective at the wide receiver position. There could be one spot up for grabs between Marquez North (Charlotte, N.C./Mallard Creek), Alvin Bailey (Seffner, Fla./Armwood) and Reggie Davis (Tallahassee, Fla./Lincoln) , along with juco targets Corey Smith (Akron, Oh./East Mississippi C.C.), Jonathan Rumph (Cayce, S.C./Holmes C.C.) and Jatavius Stewart (Hutchinson, Kans./Hutchinson C.C.).
