Watch List DB Austin talks favorites

ATLANTA -- ESPN Watch List cornerback Lawrence Austin (Barnesville, Ga./ Lamar County) suited up at slot receiver for the West team at the Rising Seniors Bowl practice on Sunday. When he looked up from the line of scrimmage, he saw his twin brother Lance Austin lining up to cover him on the play. This is not unusual except for the fact that both normally play cornerback for Lamar County.

Lance jokes that he always wins those battles, but on Sunday it was Lawrence that flashed his receiver skills and caught all but one pass thrown his way.

Lawrence and Lance Austin both have offers from South Carolina and Marshall so far. Other programs are checking the twins out as well.

“Georgia, Georgia Tech, Penn State, Clemson and couple of other schools are talking to me but that is about it so far,” Lawrence Austin said.

The offer from the Gamecocks stand out so far for the 5-foot-8, 173–pound junior.

“Coach [Lorenzo] Ward, he offered me a scholarship last spring and we went up there during the summer for their showcase and we went to the South Carolina-Georgia game,” Austin said. “He came to the game when we played Lovett in the third round of the playoffs. He’s a good coach, they’re not scared to play undersized defensive backs on the field. They played five DBs at one time, so that’s a good thing right there.”

Austin also like South Carolina’s archrival, the Clemson Tigers.

“They are pretty good and they aren’t scared to play undersized defensive backs either,” Austin said. “That is why I them too.”

As for the in-state Bulldogs, Austin said he is a fan of Georgia and has been “watching them for a while now.” He and his brother are on the radar of Georgia’s secondary coach Scott Lakatos.

“Coach Lakatos came to one of our practices during this school year,” Austin said. “I have been up to about three or four games. So yeah, I like Georgia.”

Austin would also like an offer from Georgia’s top rival as well.

“Florida -- I just like their program,” Austin said. “I went to the Georgia-Florida game and I liked what I saw in the Florida defense.
