BATON ROUGE -- No. 14 LSU (20-6, 4-3) grabbed an upset win of No. 3 Arkansas (22-4, 5-2) on Friday night. The Tigers rode a surprising offensive outburst to a 10-6 win, giving them a great chance at a series win against the top team in the SEC West.
Here are some rapid reactions from the win.
Overview: It was apparent from the early going that the bats would be out in this series opener, considering that the Tigers and Razorbacks combined for 10 runs in the first three innings. LSU jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning behind back-to-back RBI singles. But Arkansas roared back in its next at-bat and scored five runs in the top of the third. The Razorbacks dinged pitcher Kevin Gausman for a two-RBI double and a two-RBI triple, and added the fifth run when Gausman threw a wild pitch with a runner on third.
All told, the game saw a combined 25 hits -- with nine of those going for extra bases. LSU only had 12 home runs as a team going into the series, yet the Tigers knocked three shots over the left field wall on Friday.
