It's not a game many will want to remember, but Saturday night's 38-22 win against Towson preserves several impressive LSU winning streaks for another week -- or in some cases, another year.
LSU entered the game holding a 40-game regular season winning streak in non-conference games, which was already an NCAA record. The win not only pushes it to 41, but it ensures the Tigers are safe for another season. Whereas in most seasons LSU saves a non-conference game for November, the Tigers played all four of their non-conference dates in September this year. The next time the streak goes on the line will be next season's opener against TCU.
The Tigers also improved on a school record by winning for the 21st consecutive time in the confines of Tiger Stadium. Of course, there weren't many people here to see it, but that doesn't factor into the streak. LSU is on the road against No. 11 Florida next weekend, so that streak is safe until Oct. 13 against No. 6 South Carolina.
The win was also LSU's 18th consecutive regular season win dating back to Nov. 27, 2010 -- a 31-23 loss to Arkansas. The Tigers reeled off 13 regular season wins last year and are 5-0 so far in 2012.
