2013 safety has plenty of options

2013 athlete Su’a Cravens (Murrieta, Calif./Vista Murrieta) will be one of the most coveted prospects in his class, judging not only by his nearly 20 offers already but by looking at the schools that have made them.

Listen to Cravens’ early favorites.

“USC, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Stanford and Notre Dame,” he said. “Those are just the schools that I’m liking right now, and they’ll change after I take my visits.”

Cravens has gotten a head-start on the process because of all the attention he’s getting, but he has more than enough help. His grandfather, sister, cousin and brother were all recruited athletes in various sports.

He hasn’t yet figured out what schools will get his five official visits, but he does have an idea of a few.

“I don’t know the others yet, but I think Michigan, Arkansas and Oklahoma will be my visits,” he said.

Cravens has expressed interest in Michigan for some time and would like to get to know the Wolverines better. Since he lives so far away he isn’t as familiar with the Michigan program as he is with others.

“I know it’s a great school, and I want to see the campus and stadium,” he said. “My offensive coordinator, Coach Peterson, knows the Michigan coaches from when they were at San Diego State and we’ve somewhat talked about them before.”

Cravens has watched the Michigan defense this year, as he’s being recruited as a safety, and also plans on watching Michigan take on Virginia Tech in the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Jan. 3. He’ll be watching the players on defense, and the man running the Wolverines’ defense.

“I’ll watch what defense they run, and how the coaches react in big-time situaons,” he said. “It’s crazy that he [defensive coordinator Greg Mattison] coached in the NFL. He definitely knows what he’s doing. I’ll be watching if the defense is flying around and having fun.”

The Sugar Bowl will give Cravens another look at the transformation Michigan has gone through defensively this season. While he won’t be there in person it will be an excellent recruiting tool for Michigan.
