Big Ten Week 7 primer

There are only four Big Ten games today, but if you work hard enough you can probably catch most of the action. We’re here to tell you what to look for.

Noon ET

Indiana (3-2) at Michigan State (4-1), ESPN2: This could be a pretty interesting game considering it’s a high-powered offense (IU) against a high-powered defense (MSU) and an improving defense (IU) against an improving offense (MSU). Special teams could be the difference here, as well as a home-field advantage for the Spartans. The battle for The Old Brass Spittoon is on.

Nebraska (4-1) at Purdue (1-4), Big Ten Network: Taylor Martinez won't play this weekend so redshirt freshman Tommy Armstrong Jr. will get his first start on the road and try to work this Nebraska offense. But the Cornhuskers will also be trying to figure out how to work against a new opposing quarterback, as well. Purdue freshman Danny Etling has shown improvement, as had Purdue each week.

3:30 p.m. ET

No. 19 Northwestern (4-1) at Wisconsin, (3-2) ABC/ESPN2: A week after a disappointing loss in primetime to Ohio State, the Wildcats are on the road at one of the toughest stadiums in the Big Ten. Pat Fitzgerald and his crew will do their best two avoid a two-game skid, but expect this to be a nail-biter.

5:00 p.m. ET

No. 18 Michigan (5-0) at Penn State (3-2), ESPN: The Wolverines haven't been great on the road and the amount of crowd noise in Beaver Stadium could prove too much for a recently revamped offensive line and QB Devin Gardner. Penn State will be looking to rebound from an big loss behind an even bigger performance from freshman quarterback Christian Hackenberg.

Bye weeks: Iowa, Illinois, Minnesota, Ohio State

We’ve got good football weather all across the Big Ten this weekend. It’ll be high 60s and no chance of rain in East Lansing. It’ll be a bit warmer in West Lafayette, Ind., low 70s but still no rain. In Madison, there might be a bit of rain earlier in the morning for the tailgaters, but by kickoff, skies should be clear. And for the last day of the game, there’s a 10-percent chance of rain at kickoff, but that should clear out and temperatures should dip into the high 50s by the end of the day.
