New Jersey DB offered by U-M

Getting bigger cornerbacks on board is the ideal situation for the Michigan coaching staff. Taller corners who match up well with Big Ten receivers are hard to find though, so they are typically highly sought after when they do come around.

Michigan recently identified one of those defensive backs in Tre Bell (Jersey City, N.J./St. Peter's Prep), who is 5-foot-11, 170 pounds.

"I talked to Coach (Curt) Mallory tonight and he just wanted to let me know that they offered me," Bell said. "The whole staff loved my film and he wants me to call him tomorrow and get down there on campus. He wants me to be a Wolverine."

The Michigan offer adds to a list including South Florida, Vanderbilt, Wisconsin, West Virginia, UCF and South Carolina. Bell is hearing from other big-time programs that haven't yet offered as well.

"I have been in contact with Clemson, Notre Dame, Georgia Tech, U Conn, Boston College and LSU, too," he said.

Since he has been hearing from powerhouse programs and has been in contact with the Michigan coaches since January, the offer from the Wolverines wasn't surprising but was still exciting.

"It was a big offer for me. I ran upstairs and told my mother once I got off the phone," he said. "She screamed and was like, 'Oh my gosh, this is great.'"

He will likely have a lot of stairs to run if he continues that for every offer in the future. He describes himself as a long, rangy corner with good ball skills, good hips and someone who will come up and hit a receiver.
