ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Life is settling down for Michigan point guard Trey Burke.
After a stressful month where Burke weighed whether or not to leave for the NBA Draft or return to Michigan for his sophomore season, he made his decision last week. And now, four days after he made the official announcement, things are getting back to normal.
“It took me a couple days because I really didn’t know what I was going to do,” Burke said before the Braylon Edwards Foundation Charity Basketball Game on Friday. “Now that I’m back to normal and my regular routine with the team, seeing them every single day, it’s like nothing changed.”
For a little while, though, things were changing.
Burke said he heard often from people on social media throughout his decision-making process and it became frustrating a couple of times as he wasn’t sure who he should be listening to.
Also, he said, the process moved slower than he thought.
“Every single day things were just repeated and the process wasn’t moving,” Burke said. “I’d go to talk to Coach (John) Beilein and I’d still be on campus and no one would know what I’m doing.
“I really didn’t even know what I wanted to do and I was just weighing my options.”
Eventually, what he heard from the NBA Draft Advisory Board helped sway his decision to return to Michigan. While Burke didn’t want to give specifics of what the board said, it wasn’t entirely positive -- or entirely negative.
“Bottom line was some of it was what I wanted to hear,” Burke said. “Some of it was what I didn’t want to hear.”
What they did say was enough to convince him to return, where he said one of the main things he needs to work on is strengthening his lower body for the stretch run of next season, when the Wolverines will likely open the season amongst the top teams in the country.

“I know that’s going to be real important next year for the simple fact I have a year under my belt. I know what to expect next year and know I’ll be playing however many games, 30-something games,” Burke said. “How many minutes I play I know it’s important to get my lower body stronger so I can hold up at the end of the season.”
