The last name Bars might sound familiar to Michigan fans, as the Wolverines signed offensive lineman Blake Bars (Nashville, Tenn./Montgomery Bell Academy) in the 2012 class. Blake's younger brother Alex is now in the spotlight, and the rising junior just received his own offer from the Michigan coaching staff.
"I went up to Michigan this past weekend to take Blake up and they've seen me play before. They thought I was staying the whole weekend, so they would've offered in person, but we left early," he said. "I talked to them last night. The coaches and their families were at a kickball game, which was funny. They offered me then and I talked to Coach [Brady] Hoke and Coach [Darrell] Funk."
The younger Bars, at 6-foot-6 and 265 pounds, plays both offensive and defensive line for his high school team, and Michigan sees him as an future offensive tackle.
The Michigan offer was a big one for Alex, not only because his older brother is now on the team, but because he's also gotten to know the staff throughout the past year.
"I definitely feel like the Michigan staff is really good, so they're definitely high up on my list," he said. "I"m going to wait everything out though, and I plan on making my decision after my junior year."
Bars said he plans on taking another visit up to Ann Arbor in around two weeks with his family, and will also be at some of his brother's games this season.
