2012 defensive back planning visits

The Michigan coaching staff is still looking for one elite level defensive back in the 2012 class. The main prospect to fill that void is four-star cornerback Yuri Wright (Ramsey, N.J./Don Bosco Prep).

The 6-foot-1, 185 pound defensive back has been the main focus for Michigan for quite some time. He has tried to set up a visit to Michigan in the past, but his team was in the playoffs and he wasn't able to make it up when he wanted.

Now that his team has won the state championship he can focus more on his recruitment, and it's a good thing, because it's about to start picking up.

"Basically I'm still open to any school, but right now I'm focused on USC, Michigan, Notre Dame, Colorado, Georgia, Rutgers and Cal," he said.

That is the top list for now, but he hopes to have things narrowed down even more relatively soon.

"I plan on taking all five of my official visits, and I'd like to get down to a top three after I go on a couple visits," he said.

Of those five visits, Wright already has two of them set up and is trying to get the others scheduled as soon as he can.

"I'm going out to Colorado on Friday, and I'm going to Notre Dame on the 15th," he said. "I wanted to go to Michigan for the Ohio State game, but my coach wouldn't let me because of the playoffs."

Wright says that he would like Michigan to be his third official visit, which would mean the visit will be coming up shortly. He'll have some time to schedule it, and will even get a chance before that to talk with a Michigan coach face-to-face.

"Coach (Curt) Mallory is coming out for an in-home (visit) tomorrow," he said. "I've always loved Michigan, and it's been my favorite team since I was a little kid."

Wright says he would like to get all five of his official visits done and have his decision made by the end of January.
