Mattison mum on Meyer, Ohio State

Michigan defensive coordinator Greg Mattison won a national championship at Florida with Urban Meyer.

Now, Mattison doesn't want to talk about him.

"I don't really want to talk about that," Mattison said. "He's at Ohio State, he's a good football coach and I had great years with him but I really don't want to go into the Urban/Ohio State deal. Let's talk about Michigan.

"That's really what we're here for."

However, Mattison will coach against Meyer however long he stays at Michigan and likely know each other better and understand the opponent's tendencies better than almost anyone else in the league.

Mattison wouldn't go into that, either.

"I just said let's talk about Michigan," Mattison said tersely. "OK?"

The 62-year-old Mattison coached for three seasons under Meyer, winning a BCS National Championship over Ohio State, 41-14, on Jan. 8, 2007. Their final game together was the following season in the 2008 Capital One Bowl, when Michigan beat Mattison, Meyer and Florida, 41-35.

Meyer said earlier this year Mattison was the first coach he contacted when he took the Florida job, was among his first hires and was instrumental in landing the player most associated with Meyer's success with the Gators: quarterback Tim Tebow.
