Although they were underdogs in 2012, it’s no real surprise to see Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) St. Thomas Aquinas holding up another state championship at the end of the third weekend in December.
And while 2012 was a nice surprise to some, it appears that the Raiders will be loaded again in 2013 and one of the top returning starters will be wide junior receiver Corey Holmes.
Holmes had four receptions for 167 yards and a touchdown in Friday’s victory over Tallahassee Lincoln. And it’s no surprise the 6-foot-1, 172-pound prospect is already high on several recruiting boards.
“I am talking with Notre Dame and Michigan quite often right now,” Holmes said. “There’s a good chance I’ll take unofficial visits to both programs in the offseason.
“There are a few schools I’m looking at, but everything is open right now.”
Holmes has offers from Florida, FSU, Rutgers, UCF, Wisconsin, Houston and several others. For now he just wants to enjoy the biggest win of his young career.
“I’m just excited to be part of his state championship team,” Holmes said. “These are great teammates and all year we talked about trying to get back to that championship level.”
