The Baker Bowl is here, and Oklahoma quarterback Baker Mayfield greeted the big day with an Instagram post that ended with "#TheKidIsBack."
Mayfield is back at Texas Tech in Lubbock, where he began his career as a walk-on quarterback under Red Raiders coach Kliff Kingsbury. Texas Tech, which once tried to stop (or at least slow) Mayfield's in-conference transfer, will now try to stop (or slow) Mayfield and the Sooners offense on Saturday night.
Appreciative of the challenges and the journey that have put me in the position I have today. "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future." The Jones will be rocking tonight, let's have some fun Sooner Nation. #TheKidIsBack
Mayfield's first trip back to Texas Tech as the Sooners' starter adds another layer of drama to a game that features two very interesting quarterbacks in Mayfield and Texas Tech's Patrick Mahomes.
"It's always fun to play in Lubbock," Mayfield told ESPN.com's Jake Trotter this week. "This time, I'm on the other side of it."
