OU, Mizzou finalists for TE Jason Reese

Tight end Jason Reese (Euless, Texas/Trinity) decided to part ways with Arizona State a little over a week ago. Many thought Missouri would be Arizona State’s replacement.

There’s a new player in Reese’s recruiting. Reese said Oklahoma has come on strong, and the Sooners and Tigers are neck and neck in the race for his services.

Reese, a three-star tight end, said that while Oklahoma hasn’t offered, he’s been in contact, and he’s confident that the Sooners will offer soon. Now 6-foot-4 and 231 pounds, Reese is looking to set up a visit to Norman, Okla., next month.

“The closeness to home,” Reese said about Oklahoma, “my mom will be able to see every single [home] game with OU being only 2 ½ hours away. When you look at the resume of Coach [Bob] Stoops and the past players like Jermaine Gresham and James Hanna, it says a lot about the program. I feel like I can be the next tight end to come out.”

If Reese picks up an Oklahoma offer, it won’t be a slam dunk that he attends. Reese is a huge fan of Missouri and what the program brings to the table. He took an official visit to the campus two weekends ago and said he had a great time. In addition to playing in the SEC, Reese said he likes some of the smaller intangibles Missouri has to offer.

“With it being in a smaller town, I love that,” Reese said. “Plus, it has a lot of Texas players there. When I went up there, I felt like I was with some of my brothers. I also like the style of offense that they run. They use their tight end a lot, and they throw the ball a lot.”

Reese is being recruited to Missouri by defensive coordinator Dave Steckel. He’s being recruited to Oklahoma by offensive linemen/tight ends coach Bruce Kittle. Reese said he won’t make a final decision until after he visits Oklahoma.
