Name: John Michael McGee

Position: Offensive guard

Height, Weight: 6-foot-3, 275 pounds

Hometown/School: Texarkana,Texas/Texas

Committed: June 23, 2011

Scout grade: 80. Four-star prospect.

Scout rankings: No. 8 offensive guard, No. 46 in the Midlands region, No. 36 in Texas

Accolades: Army All-American

Picked OU over: Auburn, Stanford, USC, Alabama, Michigan, Notre Dame, Nebraska and others.

State of the position: The Sooners interior offensive line is in excellent shape. Gabe Ikard and Ben Habern lead the way with Adam Shead appearing to be a superb young offensive lineman.

Pros: “McGee does a very good job blocking for the run and pass. Displays excellent flexibility, balance and agility; comes off the ball out of a three point stance with very good explosion, initial fit and pad level. This guy is a tough customer, one who displays a nasty finishing attitude.” - ESPN analyst

Cons: “Will need refinement with hand use but displays good initial punch and location. How soon McGee sees valuable playing time most likely will depend on his ability to add bulk to his frame.” - ESPN analyst

Similar to/potential role: Adam Shead. Plays with a similar aggressiveness and athleticism as Shead. He could provide quality depth early in his career before becoming a multi-year starter.

Expected impact: 2014. McGee has plenty of physical talent but will need at least one year in the weight room to see his full potential. He should provide quality depth after a redshirt season but has the talent to earn himself a starting spot as early as 2013.
