Every weekday morning, a member of the SoonerNation gives his take on three things happening in the Sooner sports world.
1. Oklahoma coach Bob Stoops dropped a bombshell on Wednesday night when he said receivers Jaz Reynolds, Trey Franks and safety Quentin Hayes “have been removed from scholarship”, It shouldn’t have been a huge surprise based on the actions of the Sooners since the Insight Bowl. OU has signed six receivers since the last time they played a football game and will be leaning heavily on newcomers at the position.
2. Sooners softball suffered a devastating end to its season with back-to-back losses during the championship series of the Women’s College World Series. OU was one win away from a national title but Alabama won two straight games to win its first softball title in program history. Sooners fans can take solace with the realization that the majority of the squad returns next season including USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year Keilani Ricketts, freshman slugger Lauren Chamberlain and clutch junior Jessica Shults.
3. Wednesday marked the final day of the Major League Baseball Draft and two more Sooners came off the board. Junior pitcher Drew Harrison was taken in the 23rd round by the Detroit Tigers and shortstop Caleb Bushyhead was drafted in the 29th round by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. Steven Okert, Damien Magnifico and Jordan John were selected in the first two days. This marks the eighth time at least five Sooners have been drafted in the past decade.
