Caleb Benenoch (Katy, Texas/Seven Lakes) received an unexpected surprise on Monday, one that might throw off his original decision plans.
The four-star offensive lineman picked up an offer from UCLA. He has more than 20 offers already, but this one is a big one for Benenoch.
“I’m excited,” he said. “[UCLA is the] No. 25 ranked academic school nationally, and we talked about me starting as a true freshman.”
He originally planned to make his college decision and announce it Sept. 28 following Katy Seven Lakes’ homecoming game against Mayde Creek. That plan is up in the air now.
“I’m taking an official there, so homecoming is highly unlikely,” Benenoch said.
The 6-foot-6, 321-pound guard has favored Texas, Oklahoma and five other schools since decommitting from Michigan State this summer.
Now he can add UCLA to that list. Benenoch plans to speak with the UCLA coaching staff on Monday night to find out more about where he fits in the Bruins' plans. Benenoch is also considering taking official visits to Oklahoma, Arkansas and Northwestern.
