Few football players – regardless of classification – have the combination of offers that 2014 cornerback Nick Watkins (Dallas/Bishop Dunne) holds.
Alabama. LSU. Ohio State. Arkansas. Michigan. Georgia. Just a few of the programs that Watkins will have the opportunity to choose from when it’s his time to commit.
Watkins added Oklahoma on Friday, upping his list of offers to 11. The 6-foot-1, 180-pound cornerback picked up an offer from Notre Dame on Thursday. LSU and Georgia offered on Wednesday.
“It’s all been a humbling experience,” Watkins said. “I’m just taking it all in and being thankful that God gave me the abilities to produce on the field. I can’t even put into words how grateful I am. My family’s been behind me since Day 1 to go out and be the best.”
Watkins said his most recent offer is intriguing. His head coach, Michael Johnson, gave him the news that Oklahoma was interested. Since early May, he hadn’t heard much from the Sooners, but an offer from them is held in high regards.
“Oklahoma’s a big school in the Big 12. They win every year,” Watkins said. “I go watch them play Texas at the Cotton Bowl. They’re a school in the Big 12, and the Big 12 is a passing conference. They’ll have some great DBs come out and make it to the NFL.”
Watkins recorded 49 tackles, six pass breakups and five interceptions in 2011. Two of those picks he returned for touchdowns. Watkins also saw partial time at wide receiver for Bishop Dunne.
Watkins added that he recently has heard from Oregon, Texas and Texas Tech.
