The premier high school football event of the the summer began Thursday at Nike world headquarters in Beaverton, Oregon.
While schools such as Georgia and USC have even larger contingents on hand, three Oregon Ducks commits and several Ducks targets are a couple hours north of Eugene this week. Oregon's top three skill-position commits are on hand to compete among the nation's best.
RB Dontre Wilson (DeSoto, Texas/DeSoto), WR Darren Carrington (San Diego/Horizon Christian) and Alex Redmond (Los Alamitos, Calif./Los Alamitos) are in Beaverton to represent the Ducks and help recruit some other Ducks targets.
"I feel like I am as good as anyone out there and this is a great opportunity for me to prove it to everyone," Wilson said.
After a few solid camp outings this spring, Carrington saw his stock rise and he wants to let people know that he might be from a small school but he can go head to head with the best in the nation.
"I play at a small school, but San Diego has a lot of talent. I feel like I've proven myself at camps so far, but there's no better place to show your skills than at The Opening," Carrington said.
Some of the top uncommitted recruits who are at The Opening and being pursued by Oregon include, DB Leon McQuay (Seffner, Fla./Armwood), DB Vernon Hargreaves (Tampa, Fla./Wharton), WR Ricky Seals-Jones (Sealy, Texas/Sealy), RB Alvin Kamara (Norcross, Ga./Norcross), RB Derrick Green (Richmond, Va./Hermitage), DL Eddie Vanderdoes (Auburn, Calif./Placer), DB Priest Willis (Tempe, Ariz./Marcos De Niza), DB Tahaan Goodman (Rancho Cucamonga, Calif./Rancho Cucamonga), LB Mike Mitchell (Plano, Texas/Prestonwood Christian), DL Torrodney Prevot (Houston/Alief Taylor), DL Jordan Sherit (Tampa, Fla./Hillsborough) and WR Ra'Shaad Samples (Dallas/Skyline).
