Ohio State coach Urban Meyer loves speed on the edge and he dipped into the state where he became a legend Wednesday with an offer to Florida State commit Tony Stevens (Orlando, Fla./Evans).

Ranked No. 173 in the ESPN 300, Stevens said he is still committed to the Seminoles, but was taken aback by the offer from the Buckeyes.

“It means a lot,” Stevens said. “Coach Meyer is a pretty good coach. I loved what he did with Florida when he was down here.

“He’s just like [Alabama coach] Nick Saban. When people hear the name Nick Saban, they think of how legendary he is. He’s won national championships and knows how to coach his players well.”

The 6-foot-4, 184-pound wide receiver hauled in 37 receptions last season for 781 yards and 10 touchdowns.

While he’s committed to Florida State, Stevens has said he won’t rule out taking visits elsewhere.

He mentioned Ohio State, USF, South Carolina and West Virginia along with the Seminoles in his top five. Should he decomit from FSU, Stevens said he would fit right into the Buckeyes’ plans.

“I have versatility,” he said. “I have speed. I can create mismatches in the slot or go one-on-one with the cornerback and get the ball from there.”
