OT Marcelys Jones grabs OSU offer

Marcelys Jones (Cleveland, Ohio/Glenville) had that sinking feeling Friday afternoon. Seconds later, the offensive tackle from the class of 2014 couldn’t stop smiling.

Headed to get something to eat, his high school principal pulled him aside and told Jones he needed to talk to him in his office.

Before the 6-foot-4, 325-pound Jones knew it, he had his first scholarship offer, and it was from Ohio State -- the very school he said five weeks ago was his dream school.

“I was going to lunch, and my principal said he needed to talk to me, so I was like, ‘Oh man, I must be in trouble. I hope I didn’t do anything.’

“He told me to sit down and got the phone and said Coach [Stan] Drayton wanted to talk to me and that they wanted to offer me. It means a lot. It’s just a blessing to have a school that you’ve watched since you were a kid offer you.”

Jones isn’t ready to commit just yet, as colleges continue to show interest -- as of Friday, Arizona State, Florida, Illinois, Louisville, Michigan State, Tennessee, UCLA, USC, West Virginia and Wisconsin have thrown their name in the ring.

But he plans to head to Ohio Stadium at least two more times this season -- on Oct. 6 for the Nebraska game and Nov. 24 for Michigan -- after taking in Urban Meyer’s debut against Miami (Ohio) earlier this season.

“I’m definitely going to be back in The Horseshoe,” Jones said. “It’s a great feeling to be there. They love you. The fans know who you are. It’s just a great feeling.”
