DT Tracy Sprinkle loves 2013 class

After playing his last game at home Friday, Ohio State commit Tracy Sprinkle (Elyria, Ohio/Elyria) took a second to look ahead at the 2013 recruiting class for the Buckeyes and liked what he saw.

“I think we have some pretty talented guys in this class,” the future defensive tackle for the Buckeyes said. “It could be one of the best classes Ohio State has had in a long time.

“Hopefully with Coach Urban Meyer and what he’s doing down there right now, we can come in and keep that up.”

What Sprinkle sees is a class ready to do battle almost right away. He’s seen Eli Woodard (Voorhees, N.J.) and Cam Burrows (Trotwood, Ohio/Trotwood-Madison) continue to be shut down corners and heard all about how Joey Bosa (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla./St. Thomas Aquinas), Jayme Thompson (Toledo, Ohio/Central Catholic), Darron Lee (New Albany, Ohio/New Albany) and Tyquan Lewis (Tarboro, N.C./Tarboro) are stepping up big defensively.

He’s seen Jalin Marshall (Middletown, Ohio/Middletown) and has heard the senior is 42-of-109 passing for 598 yards with 8 touchdowns, but does it better with his feet where he has 1,118 yards on 154 attempts with 10 scores. Sprinkle knows Ezekiel Elliott (St. Louis/John Burroughs) is backing up a solid junior season with a senior campaign that now has him scoring 28 touchdowns in seven games. He now has 70 scores in the last two seasons.

To be fair, Sprinkle leads the way with 71 tackles and 14 sacks, while Lee has two picks with one returned for a touchdown. Burrows, Woodard and Thompson are on islands of their own as teams rarely throw their way.

So which side of the ball is better in Ohio State’s recruiting class of 2013? Well, Sprinkle is a defensive guy.

“Jalin Marshall, I hear he’s been doing really good, eating guys up,” Sprinkle said. “Also Ezekiel Elliott has been playing pretty well. Those guys were kind of under the radar, but they’re coming out pretty strong.

“Where we’re strongest, it’s got to be the defensive side. Guys are just dominating like myself, Joey Bosa, Cam Burrows, Eli Woodard, Jayme Thompson, Darron Lee, all those guys are just having great seasons.”
