At first glance, Davonte James likes OSU

Davonte James (Springfield, Ohio/Springfield) might be hard-pressed to top his first experience at The Horseshoe.

On hand with teammate Thaddeus Snodgrass, the ESPN Watch List junior watched the improbable become probable when Kenny Guiton took over for an injured Braxton Miller to lead Ohio State over Purdue in a 29-22 overtime thriller.

“I thought it was a great game,” James said. “I didn’t think they were doing that bad. I liked that they never gave up. It was great.”

The 6-foot-2, 220-pound inside linebacker doesn’t have an offer from the Buckeyes, but he’s certainly not flying under the radar.

He has interest from Georgia Tech, Michigan State, Notre Dame and Ohio State as his high school team closes out its season this weekend. After that, it will be nose to the grindstone as James’ recruiting process will, no doubt, heat up.

He has already gone on record saying he wants to get back to Ohio State and is eying -- like many recruits -- a return trip for the game against Michigan on Nov. 24.

“I thought their fans were great,” James said. “The stands were filled and everybody was excited. It was a great experience. I really loved it. I loved everything about it.”
