Ohio State commits to square off in finals

Ohio State commit Cam Burrows has no doubt heard the hype. Ditto for Buckeyes commit Jayme Thompson, Ohio State target DeShone Kizer and Michigan pledge Mike McCray II.

The quartet is becoming a huge storyline as the Division II state title game awaits Toledo (Ohio) Central Catholic and defending champ Trotwood-Madison on Friday.

Thompson and Kizer play for Central Catholic, while Burrows and McCray wear Trotwood-Madison colors.

“We’ll take them like any other team this season,” Kizer said. “We’ll prepare the same way. We’ll watch film and go through and game plan the best we can.

“As long as we keep putting up the numbers and play defense like we can, I think we’ll come out victorious.”

That’s what Thompson hopes as well. While Burrows remained tight-lipped about the game -- he’s not much of a media guy in season -- Thompson looked forward to the meeting.

He and Burrows saw each other during unofficial visits to The Horseshoe. They talked about the future, but also about Friday when Thompson hopes to unseat the Rams as state champs.

“I just asked him if he was ready because we’re coming after him,” Thompson said. “We don’t want to come home empty-handed.

“I’m the type of guy that can put it behind me. I can have my best friend line up in front of me, I’ll go at him hard, but then after the game we’re best friends again. I can turn that switch off, but during the game it’s no hard feelings, I’m going as hard as I can.”

Another finalist: Ohio State commit Tyquan Lewis (Tarboro, N.C./Tarboro) will try to make it a sweep by winning his fourth straight Class 2A state championship. The undefeated Vikings will make their fifth straight championship appearance and play East Lincoln (15-0) on Friday.

More visitors: Ohio State’s search for a linebacker in the Class of 2013 continued and with some success as Florida commit James Hearns (Tallahassee, Fla., Lincoln) has indicated he will make an official visit to Ohio State on Jan. 11.

Should he go through with his plans, he’ll become the second Gators pledge at linebacker to visit Columbus on an official visit as Daniel McMillian (Jacksonville, Fla./First Coast) was at The Horseshoe on Saturday for the Buckeyes’ win against Michigan.

Corn Elder (Nashville, Tenn./The Ensworth School) will be making an official visit on Jan. 11 as well. David Dawson will be in Columbus for his official visit on Dec. 7

Where we’re at: In a word, everywhere.

BuckeyeNation won’t miss any Division I talent in Ohio as it will be at all six state championships this weekend.

Here’s a breakdown of Ohio state targets or commits that wll be showcasing their talents in front of Buckeyes assistant coach Kerry Coombs this weekend: Toledo Central Catholic safety and Ohio State commit Jayme Thompson and quarterback DeShone Kizer; Trotwood-Madison cornerback and Buckeyes commit Cam Burrows; St. Vincent-St. Mary linebacker Dante Booker and Marion Local quarterback Adam Bertke.
