Another wild recruiting week for OSU

The dead period in recruiting might be here, but Ohio State wasted little time last week in getting in some last-minute offers, while taking visits as well.

No one committed -- at least not to the Buckeyes -- but that doesn’t mean there wasn’t a ton of things going on from a team perspective.

Here’s a recap of what has become a common theme, a very busy recruiting week:

Monday began with eight Ohio State commits reflecting back on their official visits and their role in landing Gareon Conley (Massillon, Ohio/Washington) and Donovan Munger (Shaker Heights, Ohio/Shaker Heights) as the latest commits in the Class of 2013.

The day also included a visit to 2014 cornerback Jabrill Peppers (Paramus, N.J./Paramus).

On Tuesday, Drew Barker (Hebron, Ky./Connor) was visited by Ohio State as the ESPN Watch List quarterback continues to draw interest from the Buckeyes. Saeed Blacknall had a visit from a high-profile coach as well.

Jeb Blazevich put Ohio State in his final six, while Jacksonville (Fla.) Trinity Christian had two of its athletes pick up Buckeyes offers in Isaiah Ford and Jeffrey Holland.

Wednesday concluded with big defensive tackle Elisha Shaw (Tucker, Ga./Tucker) picking up an offer from Ohio State. The 6-foot-5, 292-pound Shaw already has offers from Alabama, Florida State and Georgia.

On Thursday, Tommy Sanders (Cordele, Ga./Butler) nabbed up an offer from Ohio State after taking an official visit the week before. It didn’t stop the junior college outside linebacker from taking an official visit to South Carolina over the weekend, however. Sanders could make his decision as soon as Monday.

The Detroit Martin Luther King trio of Jalen Embry, Carl Fuller and Avonte Maddox also indicated they wouldn’t mind getting an offer from Ohio State and staying together at the next level.

Friday came with an offer to 2014 wide receiver Lonnie Johnson (Gary, Ind./West Side), who went on the record as saying a possible commitment announcement could come soon. The junior coveted the offer and was moved to tears when he received it.

It wasn’t all good news, as ESPN 150 offensive guard David Dawson (Detroit/Cass Tech) announced he was recommitting to Michigan and headed back as a pledge to the Wolverines on Saturday.

On Sunday, the Buckeyes found out ESPN 150 linebackers Trey Johnson (Lawrenceville, Ga./Central Gwinnett) and Mike Mitchell (Plano, Texas/Prestonwood Christian) will likely announce their commitments at their respective all-star games.

Ohio State also found out they made the cut to eight with ESPN Watch List offensive tackle Orlando Brown Jr.
